December 2010

Let's have a real party this month! As usual in December, we will have a dessert buffet (potluck) during the break. In years past the selections have been truly inspired and delicious--and wide-ranging, from fresh fruit to gooey chocolatey confections.

But the best reason to come to the December contra is that it is so much fun! And there is live music. Everyone smiles the whole time. What's not to like? See you there.

Don't Miss It!

Darn! I am way behind in this blogging thing, so I'll cut to the chase: this Saturday, June 12, 2010, will be the last Contra Dance in Ukiah until October! You won't want to miss this one. The music provided by Laura and Darrin Smith and their friends is always interesting and fabulous for dancing, and the caller, Tom Lemann will be teaching us new dances. We will all be smiling the whole time. And I bet there will be some refreshments.

Don't miss it! It'll be lots of fun, as always. See you there.

It's MAY!!!!!!

I sure hope to see you this Saturday evening at the Ukiah Methodist Church social hall, 270 N Pine Street, back entrance. Of course, that info is on the "poster" I have uploaded, too.

Last month we had a great time, AND double chocolate gluten-free brownies! I'll bet you are sorry now you didn't come! I can't promise brownies again, but I can promise lots of good music, and a fun time, along with aerobic exercise that doesn't even seem like exercise.

Please keep in mind that we will be having dances in May and in June (the 12th) but will take a break for July, August and September, when the weather is generally pretty darned warm around here. So come join us, this Saturday night. I'll save a dance for you!

March Contra Dance coming up!

And you are all invited to come join in the fun. Listen to the live, foot-tapping music, and shake a leg. Get aerobic exercise and smile a lot.

I've been learning a lot in the Photoshop class I'm taking at the local community college. The March poster is the first one that I made using photoshop. I didn't really plan to have that white oval around the dancers, but that's okay. Makes it a little different, doesn't it?

So make your plans NOW! You maybe saw the photos I posted after February's dance? We did have a great time....

It was fun!

Gosh, too bad if you had other things to do Saturday evening: the contra dance was lots of fun, and there would have been room for you on the dance floor. The music provided by "Skiffle Symphony" was terrific.

Toward the end of the evening I announced that I would be taking some photographs for posting here. Immediately the crowd thinned out. Well, okay, that's an exaggeration; the crowd usually thins out at the end anyhow.

I discovered that my little point and shoot digital is not the most efficient equipment for that kind of shooting. The lag time between clicking and actually capturing the image is s-l-o-w, and the charge time for the flash is even slower. But okay, I got a shot that sort of gives the flavor, and here it is. Next month I'm going to try taking photos with my phone. They may be better! Why don't you join us? Wear something bright colored, and a smile is always in order. I'll have the poster up in the next few days.

Come to the February Contra Dance!

Last weekend I drove to Eureka and was surprised to see cherry trees already in bloom. That's not happening yet in Ukiah, but our hearts are ready to blossom! Join us for the Contra Dance and warm your heart, nourish your soul, enjoy great music and companionship. Exercise those smile muscles. See you there!

February Dance Information

Okay, the February contra dance in Ukiah will be Saturday, the 13th--that's the day before Valentine's Day. Why not bring a friend and have a wonderful time, dancing to energetic LIVE music?

In fact, why not bring several friends, make it an occasion? The more dancers there are, the more fun the dancing is, and the energy in the hall is contagious.

I'll be there, and I plan to bring along someone who has never been to a contra dance. Ask the people you meet in classes, at the health club, waiting in the dentist's office.

See you there!
