March Contra Dance coming up!

And you are all invited to come join in the fun. Listen to the live, foot-tapping music, and shake a leg. Get aerobic exercise and smile a lot.

I've been learning a lot in the Photoshop class I'm taking at the local community college. The March poster is the first one that I made using photoshop. I didn't really plan to have that white oval around the dancers, but that's okay. Makes it a little different, doesn't it?

So make your plans NOW! You maybe saw the photos I posted after February's dance? We did have a great time....

It was fun!

Gosh, too bad if you had other things to do Saturday evening: the contra dance was lots of fun, and there would have been room for you on the dance floor. The music provided by "Skiffle Symphony" was terrific.

Toward the end of the evening I announced that I would be taking some photographs for posting here. Immediately the crowd thinned out. Well, okay, that's an exaggeration; the crowd usually thins out at the end anyhow.

I discovered that my little point and shoot digital is not the most efficient equipment for that kind of shooting. The lag time between clicking and actually capturing the image is s-l-o-w, and the charge time for the flash is even slower. But okay, I got a shot that sort of gives the flavor, and here it is. Next month I'm going to try taking photos with my phone. They may be better! Why don't you join us? Wear something bright colored, and a smile is always in order. I'll have the poster up in the next few days.

Come to the February Contra Dance!

Last weekend I drove to Eureka and was surprised to see cherry trees already in bloom. That's not happening yet in Ukiah, but our hearts are ready to blossom! Join us for the Contra Dance and warm your heart, nourish your soul, enjoy great music and companionship. Exercise those smile muscles. See you there!

February Dance Information

Okay, the February contra dance in Ukiah will be Saturday, the 13th--that's the day before Valentine's Day. Why not bring a friend and have a wonderful time, dancing to energetic LIVE music?

In fact, why not bring several friends, make it an occasion? The more dancers there are, the more fun the dancing is, and the energy in the hall is contagious.

I'll be there, and I plan to bring along someone who has never been to a contra dance. Ask the people you meet in classes, at the health club, waiting in the dentist's office.

Hello out there....

Several of us who live in the Ukiah area and love contra dancing got together to toss around ideas on how to reach out to others in our community, who obviously don't know what a wonderful thing Contra Dance is.

Each month talented musicians come from far and wide (some are local, some from the Greater Bay Area) to play terrific toe-tapping music for us to dance to. Callers (those who guide us through each dance) who are patient and creative and also love to dance come to encourage us and facilitate our enjoyment.

One of our thoughts was to start a blog, as well as a facebook page. I just tried to create a link, but need to learn more. Meanwhile, it's a facebook group, Ukiah Contra Dance Group. Maybe someone who is facebook-savvy could help me here?

So here we are. Tell all your friends. If you already love Contra Dance, come next time (Feb 13, 2010) and bring a friend. It's more fun with more dancers.

Welcome to our blog

Well, here it is: the first post on the brand new blog for Ukiah Contra Dancers. We plan to post information on upcoming dances, including the dates, location, callers and musicians. From time to time we will have feedback from participants as well.
